Associate Director of Grants Research and Evaluation

Rice University is a small private university in Houston Texas with strengths in science and engineering and many active K12 outreach programs, including the Center for Education’s School Science and Technology (SST) program. The mission of SST is to create a science and technology learning community for teachers in the Houston area by providing long-term, sustained teacher professional development in science content, pedagogy, systemic school reform, and technology.

We seek a candidate with an advanced degree in science or science education, proven grant writing skills, and a professional level understanding of statistics, research design, and program evaluation to serve as the Associate Director of Grants Research and Evaluation. This person will create and implement a research plan to include the development of focused research questions derived from recent science education literature, develop funding sources for continued growth and development of SST programs by writing grant proposals and reports, evaluate the effectiveness of SST programs through the development and implementation of appropriate science content assessments and surveys of teaching methodology, and prepare publications of relevant findings.

Requires: Advanced degree in science or science education or equivalent experience, a professional level understanding of statistics, research design, and program evaluation, exceptional analytical and research skills, a high degree of familiarity with science education literature, a superior working knowledge of computers and common software applications, occasional travel, some after hours and weekend duties.

Preferred: Ph.D. in science, education, or science education or related field, demonstrated success in organizational development and managing complex research and educational programs, proven track record of obtaining large grants, e.g., NSF, NIH, DOE, high level of technological proficiency, working knowledge of the Texas state standards (TEKS) for elementary science.
