The human brain has over 10 billion neurons. A typical computer memory has one million bytes. Some of the newer computers have more. A byte is a set of bits, the smallest unit of information in a computer. Which memory, human or computer, could perform the following tasks better? Put H for human and C for computer.

  • remember a thousand Social Security numbers
  • remember all of your classmates grades
  • remember how to ride a bicycle
  • remember the names of all the students in the fifth grade at your school
  • pick the face of a friend from a crowd of people


Name one other thing that a human brain could do better than a computer. Name one thing a computer could do better than a human brain.
